General Questions

To register at Simba Ladies Hostel, you need to:

  1. Contact our manager, Kevel, to check room availability
  2. Pay the one-time registration fee of 1,500/-
  3. Bring the required items: 2 bed sheets, cup, plate, spoon, 1 passport photo, and 1 bag only
  4. Complete the registration form and receive your room key

The monthly rent is paid at the beginning of each month.

While many of our residents are students at Nairobi University and other nearby institutions, we also welcome young working professionals. Our hostel is designed to provide a safe, comfortable environment for all female residents, whether they are pursuing their education or starting their careers.

The important requirement is that residents are female and able to abide by our hostel rules and regulations.

Simba Ladies Hostel is conveniently located near Nairobi University. The distance and transportation options are:

  • Walking Distance: Approximately 15-20 minutes walk to the main campus
  • Public Transport: 5-7 minutes by matatu (local minibus)
  • Taxi/Ride-sharing: 3-5 minutes drive

Many of our residents choose to walk to campus, which is not only economical but also provides some exercise and fresh air.

The hostel is managed by Kevel, our dedicated hostel manager who lives on-site. Kevel is responsible for:

  • Day-to-day operations of the hostel
  • Addressing residents' concerns and requests
  • Coordinating maintenance and repairs
  • Enforcing hostel rules and regulations
  • Processing payments and registrations

Yes, we encourage prospective residents to visit the hostel before making a decision. Visiting allows you to:

Accommodation Questions

We offer four types of room options to cater to different preferences and budgets:

  • Single Room: 14,500/- per month - For those who prefer privacy
  • 2 Sharing (Cairo): 11,000/- per month - Shared with one roommate
  • 4 Sharing (K.T & Rome): 9,000/- per month - Shared with three roommates
  • 6 Sharing (NY, Berlin, London, Paris): 8,500/- per month - Shared with five roommates

All options include access to the same hostel amenities, including meals, Wi-Fi, and security.

We provide breakfast and dinner from Monday to Sunday. Our meals are prepared with care to ensure they are nutritious and delicious. The meal schedule is as follows:

  • Breakfast: 6:30 AM - 8:30 AM
  • Dinner: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

If you have any dietary restrictions or preferences, please inform us during registration, and we'll do our best to accommodate your needs.

Yes, we understand the importance of compatible roommates. If you're booking with friends, we'll do our best to accommodate your request to stay together. If you're booking individually, we try to match roommates based on similar study programs, interests, and living habits.

When making your booking, please inform our manager if you have specific roommate preferences, and we'll try our best to accommodate your request subject to availability.

Each resident is provided with the following furniture and fixtures:

  • A bed with mattress (sheets are to be brought by residents)
  • A study desk and chair
  • A personal locker for valuables
  • Shared wardrobe space (in shared rooms)
  • Access to shared bookshelves (in common study areas)

All rooms are also equipped with adequate lighting and electrical outlets for your devices.

Room transfers are possible depending on availability. If you wish to change your room, please speak with our manager, Kevel, who will assist you based on current occupancy. A small administrative fee may apply for room transfers.

We recommend waiting at least one month before requesting a room change to give yourself time to adjust to your current living arrangement.

Security Questions

We take the security of our residents very seriously. Our security measures include:

  • 24/7 security personnel at the entrance
  • Controlled access to the hostel building
  • Individual lockers for valuables
  • CCTV surveillance in common areas
  • Well-lit surroundings
  • Regular security patrols
  • Secure locks on all rooms and main doors

We also maintain a log of all visitors and have emergency protocols in place.

For the safety and comfort of all residents, we have the following policies:

  • Curfew: All residents should be in the hostel by 10:00 PM. If you need to come in later for academic or work reasons, please inform the management in advance.
  • Visiting Hours: Visitors are allowed in common areas from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Male visitors are restricted to the reception area only.

These rules are in place to ensure the security and privacy of all our residents.

We strive to maintain a conducive environment for both studying and socializing. Our noise policies include:

  • Quiet Hours: 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM daily
  • Extended Quiet Hours: During exam periods, quiet hours may be extended
  • Study Areas: Always maintain a low noise level in designated study areas

We encourage residents to be considerate of their neighbors at all times. If you're experiencing issues with noise, please speak with our management.

Each resident is provided with a personal locker for storing valuables. Our lockers are:

  • Made of sturdy metal for durability
  • Equipped with individual key locks
  • Secured to walls or floors to prevent removal
  • Large enough to store laptops, tablets, and other valuable items

Each resident receives one key for their locker. For security reasons, we do not keep duplicate keys, so please keep your key safe. Lost keys will incur a replacement fee of 500/-.

While we take all precautions to ensure security, we recommend that residents do not keep large amounts of cash or extremely valuable items in their lockers.

We have established protocols for different types of emergencies:

  • Medical Emergencies: First aid kits are available, and our staff can assist in contacting emergency services. We have partnerships with nearby medical facilities.
  • Fire Emergencies: Fire extinguishers are placed throughout the building, and evacuation routes are clearly marked. We conduct regular fire drills.
  • Security Incidents: Our 24/7 security personnel are trained to respond to security threats, and we have direct lines to local law enforcement.

Emergency contact numbers, including those for the hostel manager, local police, hospital, and fire services, are posted in common areas and provided to each resident upon check-in.

Payment Questions

Our payment terms are as follows:

  • Registration Fee: 1,500/- (one-time, non-refundable)
  • Monthly Rent: Due on the 1st of each month

There are no hidden charges or additional costs for these services. Our all-inclusive pricing makes it easier for you to budget your monthly expenses.

We require a notice period of one month before moving out. This helps us prepare for new residents and ensures a smooth transition. To give notice:

  1. Inform the hostel manager in writing (email or letter)
  2. Complete a checkout form (available from the manager)
  3. Schedule a room inspection before your departure
  4. Return all keys and hostel property

Failure to provide adequate notice may result in forfeiture of your security deposit. If you need to move out urgently due to unforeseen circumstances, please discuss your situation with the manager as soon as possible.

Note that notice periods end on the last day of a calendar month. For example, if you give notice on the 15th of January, your notice period would end on the 28th/29th/30th/31st of February (depending on the month).

While breakfast and dinner are provided as part of your accommodation package, we understand that some residents may occasionally want to prepare their own meals or snacks. Our policies regarding personal cooking are:

  • Use of the kitchenette is allowed during designated hours (usually 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM)
  • Residents must clean up immediately after using the kitchen facilities
  • For safety reasons, cooking appliances are not allowed in the rooms

Please note that lunch is not provided, so many residents either use the kitchenette to prepare a light lunch, eat at university/work, or visit nearby affordable eateries.
